Happy Landings Galore. Operator of Bali's New Airport Claims is to be the most Beautiful in the world. (9/20/2014)

Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport has ambitions to become not only Indonesia’s most beautiful airport, but arguably among the most beautiful in the world with international standard facilities and a panoramic view of the Indian Ocean.

As reported by Beritabali.com,Tommy Soetomo, the CEO of PT Angkasa Pura I – the company that manages the airport, the concept employed in designing the revamped Bali airport unique among all other airports in Indonesia.

“The standards of service and arrangement of systems have made the Ngurah Rai Airport have unique advantages. You can see for yourself, the arrival terminal is sufficiently wide reaching 65,000 square meters. The passengers are very comfortable,” proclaimed Soetomo on Wednesday, September 17, 2014.

Soetomo described the “last-minute” shopping zone featuring clean outlets, attractive merchandising and items produced in Bali that impart an attractive local nuance.

“From the standpoint of concept (Bali’s airport) is different from the 13 other airports managed by Angkasa Pura. Passengers can have direct views of the movement of aircraft. Passengers can also view the beauty of the seashore and the setting sun. Where else can you see an airport like this?” Soetomo asks.

The CEO of the State-owned airport management company pointed out that the only other airport in the world where passengers can see the seashore is in the Maldives.

He went on to describe how, with the completion of Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport has given the Island a facility capable of handling 25 million passengers each year. Adding: “At this time, Bali’s airport is handling 15 million passengers, a total fare below its ultimate capacity.”

Domestic Terminal Begins Operation

On Monday, September 17, 2014, after undergoing more than a year of renovation, the domestic terminal at Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport commenced operations.

“The domestic terminal is uniquely decorated, decorated with kites connected with the Bali Kite Festival held each year at Padang Galak in Sanur, Bali,” said Soetomo.

The first passengers using the new domestic terminal on the morning of September 17th were greeted showers of Jepun flowers, gifts of Balinese textiles and commemorative bracelets.

“The very first passenger passing through the domestic terminal was booked on GA 241 flying to Yogyakarta at 6:40 a.m.” said Soetomo.

Passengers using the domestic terminal on its first day of operation were invited to become a part of history and sign a special wall in the domestic terminal designated to record their participation.

“Not only that, the departure terminal has prepared a range of entertainments including musical show, a photo booth, kids face painting and even dart games. Passengers taking part in the dart games have the chance to win a cup of coffee and shopping vouchers that can be used on the same day in the commercial area of the domestic terminal,” saidAngkasa Pura’s CEO.

400% larger than the former domestic terminal, the new domestic facility is equipped with 62 check-in counters, 4 transfer and transit counters, 19 ticketing counters. 8 boarding gates equipped with boarding bridges, 7 arrival gates and 5 conveyer belts. Capable of handling 9.4 million passengers over the course of a year, the domestic terminal is supported with a common-use check-in system to increase the efficiency of baggage handling for departing flights.
